Aaron Sorkin’s latest project, The Trial of The Chicago 7 is coming to Netflix this October, and the streaming giant has set a date for the film’s release on the platform.
What is the movie about?
The Trial of The Chicago 7 is based on the historic trial that took place in 1968 after peaceful anti-war protests at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago turned violent. The people who organized the protest, namely Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Tom Hayden, and Bobby Seale were all detained after the protests took a violent turn, and were charged with conspiracy to incite the riots. Their trial later went down in history, inspiring many films to be later made based on it.
The film was earlier slated for a theatrical release and was to be distributed by Paramount, but the COVID-19 pandemic caused the delay in release and Netflix later acquired the rights to the movie earlier in July, for over $50million.

The movie has an ensemble cast of Sacha Baron Cohen who plays the role of Abbie Hoffman, Eddie Redmayne playing the role of Tom Hayden, Mark Strong playing the role of Jerry Rubin and Yahya Abdul-Mateen playing Bobby Seale. The cast also has other big names in supporting roles such as Michael Keaton playing the role of Ramsey Clark, John Carroll Lynch playing the role of defendant David Dellinger, Alex Sharp playing the role of defendant Rennie Davis, Frank Langella playing the role of Judge Julius Hoffman and Mark Rylance playing the role of attorney William Kuntsler.
The director of the movie Aaron Sorkin has previously worked on various award-winning projects such as The Social Network, for which he won an Academy Award for Best Screenplay. Sorkin has also worked on other successful projects such as Molly’s Game and Moneyball, both of which were also nominated for various awards.
The Trial of The Chicago 7 arrives on Netflix on October 16.
