Since George Floyd’s death, there’s been protests everywhere. Riverdale star Vanessa Morgan is using this time to time to educate her followers about Hollywood’s institutional racism.
Morgan took an aim at the television industry, in a note posted to her social media. She strongly hinted at her CW, which she has been starring on for four seasons as reformed bad girl Toni Topaz.
Vanesssa wrote a note on Twitter. She began her message on May 31 with a general frustration about black characters. The note goes as follows :
Often with Madelaine Petsch’s Cheryl Blossom or other leads, she is indeed often regulated to side plots with. This is because their characters have a fiery off-and-on romance.
Morgan’s character, Toni, is a former member of the Southside Serpents who leaves to form the Pretty Poisons with Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch), who then becomes her love interest. Vanessa is, after Ashleigh Murray left at the end of season 3, the only black cast member. She addressed her role directly today when a fan tweeted.
“Lmao too bad I’m the only black series regular but also paid the least girl i could go on for days,” Morgan wrote in a reply. She added that she was “used as the token biracial bisexual”.
However, Morgan later also tweeted in support of her Riverdale castmates, saying they were not responsible for her portrayal.
She tweeted, “My role on Riverdale has nothing to do with my fellow castmates/friends.” “They don’t write the show. So no need to attack them, they don’t call the shots & I know they have my back.”
“We love you,V”, replied Lili Reinhart, who plays Betty Cooper in the series and voiced her support. “And support you 10000%.”
That’s all for now. If we get to know more on this issue, we’ll let you know. Until then, stay tuned. Stay safe and take care.
