Alice in Borderland is a Japanese manga series that was first released in the Shōnen Sunday magazine in November 2010. It was later adapted into an anime series in 2014. Due to its popularity, Netflix ordered a live action movie for the same. Shinsuke Satō is directing the movie that is set to be released on December 10, 2020. The manga series became so popular that two spinoffs were released, titled King of Diamonds and Alice in Border Road. Will the live action film be worth watching? What is it all about? Well, read more to find out!

Alice in Borderland: Plot and Cast

The story features three high school delinquents, Ryōhei Arisu, Daikichi Karube and Chōta Segawa. The three of them are tired with their high school lives and look for enjoyment in other things that doesn’t involve school. During a fireworks show, Arisu comments on the futility of their daily existence and wishes to be a part of a more exciting world, a different world.

Luckily (or maybe unfortunately) for him, his wish comes true. The trio is sent to a post-apocalyptic world that seems hauntingly similar to their own. They walk into a festival; however, they find it was almost empty, except for a woman. The woman informs them that they are a part of a game and must keep winning in order to survive. The trio soon realize that they are in Borderland where survival is only a series of psychological games.

In the live action, Kento Yamazaki plays the lead role of Ryōhei Arisu; Keita Machida plays Daikichi Karube while Yūki Morinaga plays Chōta Segawa. Ayame Misaki plays Saori Shibukiu while Tao Tsuchiya plays Yuzuha Usagi.

Alice in Borderland: Release Date and Trailer

While the trailer for the live action film hasn’t come out yet, it is scheduled to be released on December 10, 2020. We are so excited to see the lovely Tao Tsuchiya and Kento Yamazaki in another role together, especially after the success of Mare and Orange!

Meanwhile, have a look at Tsuchiya’s amazing dance performance to Sia’s “Alive”:
