Directed by Shinsuke Sato, Alice in Borderland is a Japanese science fiction thriller drama television series. It is based on the manga by Haro Aso and was directed by Shinsuke Sato.

The first season was announced in July 2019 and filmed from August to December 2019. The show’s visual effects were produced in an international collaboration between Japan’s Digital Frontier and teams from Singapore, the United States, and India. The musical score was composed by Yutaka Yamada, who had collaborated with Sato.

Towards the end of the second season, audiences believe that Arisu and his friends have left the twisted game and returned to the real world. However, none of them remember anything that happened back in Borderland, and the revelation of the Joker card proves that nothing is over. The new season is supposed to witness Arisu, Usag, and the remaining fighters returning to compete in a very tense and sadistic game to come out of Borderland for another time.

The cast of the series included Kento Yamazaki as Ryohei Arisu, Tao Tsuchiya as Yuzuha Usagi, Nijiro Murakami as Shuntarō Chishiya, Ayaka Miyoshi as Rizuna Ann, Aya Asahina as Hikari Kuina, Dori Sakurada as Suguru Niragi, Keita Machida as Daikichi Karube, Sho Aoyagi as Morizono Aguni, and more.

Alice in Borderland Season 3 Release Date

Season 1 was released on December 10, 2020, and managed to impress the critics, who praised the action and performances. They were specifically comparing the show with films such as Battle Royale. The viewership forced the streaming platform to renew the show for another season which premiered on December 22, 2022.

The show was confirmed to return for a third season on September 27, 2023. However, the release date of the series is yet to be confirmed.
