4 years agoon
Written by Steven Knight, All the Light We Cannot See is an upcoming drama-limited series. The series is based on Anthony Doerr’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, directed by Shawn Levy for Netflix.
Levy is also the executive producer alongside Aria Mia Roberts, Mark Ruffalo, Hugh Laurie, Louis Hofmann, Lars Eidinger, Andrea Deck, and Nell Sutton. The series follows the stories of a blind French teen girl named Marie-Laure and a German soldier named Werner, whose paths cross in occupied France during World War II.
So, when is the brand new series releasing? What is the plot? Who will play the main roles? Keep reading to know more details.
All the Light We Cannot See Plot and Cast
All the Light We Cannot See will take the story of the wildly successful novel written by Anthony Doerr and present it as a four-part limited series, according to THR.
The story begins when the two protagonists, Werner and Marie-Laure, are children. Marie-Laure’s journey starts in Paris, where she goes blind at an early age, while Werner’s fascination with fixing German radios helps him learn a skill that will eventually land him a position at an elite academy.
However, the backdrop for their adolescence is the breakout of World War 2, which sends Marie-Laure and her father to the French coastal town of Saint-Malo, where she soon becomes involved in the French Resistance. Meanwhile, Werner’s position at the academy and skills with radio repair make him a part of a unit dedicated to tracking members of the resistance across the continent.
Werner is eventually sent to Saint-Malo, where he discovers a unique connection to Marie-Laure as Allied forces begin to drive the German army out of France. Fans of the book and historical dramas, in general, will just have to wait until Netflix releases more details about their adaptation to see if the series lines up with the events, both tragic and hopeful, that occur in the novel.
Talking about the cast includes Aria Mia Loberti as Marie-Laure LeBlanc, Nell Sutton as Young Marie-Laure LeBlanc, Mark Ruffalo as Daniel LeBlanc, and Hugh Laurie as Etienne LeBlanc, Louis Hofmann as Werner Pfennig, Lars Eidinger as Sergeant Major Reinhold von Rumpel, and many others. No additional cast members have been announced.
All the Light We Cannot See Release Date

All the Light We Cannot See is in the early production phase, so it will be some time until we hear about a release date. Since this is a limited series with only four episodes, it’s possible we could see something on Netflix in late 2022.
In September 2021, it was announced that Netflix had given the production a series order consisting of four episodes, with Steven Knight writing the series and Levy directing all episodes.
