Almost Family, a drama series based on the Australian television series Sisters, made its debut on Fox on October 2, 2019. The show follows the story of a group of young women who discover that they’re half sisters. They have the same father; a fertility doctor who impregnated his patients with his own sperm. Almost Family was developed for television by Annie Weisman.
The show stars Brittany Snow as Julia Bechley and Timothy Hutton as Leon Bechley, Julia’s father who runs the fertility clinic. Megalyn Echikunwoke plays the role of criminal defence attorney Edie Palmer, and is one of Julia’s half sisters. Emily Osment plays the role of a retired gymnast and Julia’s other half sister, Roxy Doyle. The show also stars Mo McRae as Edie’s husband, Tim Moore, Mustafa Elzein as Dr. Isaac Abadi and Victoria Cartagena as assistant district attorney Amanda Doherty, who is assigned to prosecute Leon.
Almost Family Season 2- Is it happening or not?
The show had a disappointing start on Fox, with only 2.7 million viewers tuning in for the pilot. Almost Family didn’t fare well either across its thirteen episode run. It had an average viewership count of 1.5 million viewers for the first season. Due to the poor ratings, the show was pulled off air in mid January, after eleven episodes had aired. It returned to television in February 2020. The last two episodes were aired as a two hour finale, on a Saturday night, which is usually considered as a swan song for any television series. The show’s weird plotline also attracted a lot of controversy. The show also made it to this list of the top 10 worst TV shows of 2019.
Although the show had a 91 percent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it still fared way lower in terms of critic reviews. As was evident from the reviews and ratings of the show, Almost Family will not return for a second season. The show was cancelled by Fox in March 2020, shortly after the first season ended.
