There are various reasons why you may want to delve into a game of cards during game night or when you simply want to spend a fun time with your family and friends. A deck of cards is more portable than a board game and in addition to this, there is no lengthy setup when you opt to play a card game rather than a board game. This article lists down some of the most amazing enjoyable card games that you may not even know existed.

Gin Rummy

Many people believe that Gin Rummy is a card game that is a card variation of mah-jong, a Chinese tile game. While many scholars believe that this card game was created in early 1900, it didn’t become popular until the 1930s or during the Great Depression when many families needed to find a way to entertain themselves at home. All you need to begin a game of Gin Rummy is a set of playing cards and anyone in the family can join. Like with any card game, you need to shuffle the cards to determine who goes first.

The main objective of the game is to form melds or matched sets. The sets can either be three or four cards of a single rank such as 4-4-4 or a run of three cards in a consecutive rank such as 4-5-6. Each of the players draws a card from the top of a discard pile from the top of the stock. In this game, the player who first reaches 100 or more points wins the game.

Cribbage

Cribbage is a game intended to be played by two people although a couple more players can be accommodated with a slight modification in-game settings. The points accumulated in the game are kept track of through a whiteboard. With cribbage, you need to familiarize yourself with two parts of the game, which are pegging and counting. Pegging is numerically counting your cards and the cards of your opponents while counting is making sets, runs, and 15s with your cards.

Crazy Eights

The main objective of a game of crazy eights is to play all of the cards in your hands initially. Eight acts as a wildcard while 2’s force the next player to pick up 2. On the other hand, 4’s will force the next player to miss a turn. When you are dealt with a Queen of Spades, the next player should pick up 8. This game can be quite complicated for kids but it is sure a fun and amazing game for those who love to play cards.

The card games listed above are only some of the ones that you may have never heard of, but you should familiarize yourself with how they are played. Apart from being enjoyable and fun, these card games will also tend to work out your brain, thinking of the best strategy to win. Rest assured that it is worth every penny to get a deck of cards because apart from the games listed above, there are various other common games that you can play with your friends and family.
