The basic premise of the show focuses on the eccentric upper middle-class Smith family in a fictionalized version of Langley, Virginia, and their four housemates: Father, husband, CIA agent, Republican, and breadwinner Stan; his wife and homemaker/housewife, Francine; their leftist, hippie, college-aged daughter, Hayley; and their dorky high-school-aged son, Steve. The developers have not revealed any particular plot for the 21st season since the 20th season is yet to come out.

The first season of the show was released on February 6, 2005, and received a very positive response from the audience. Considering that, the makers have renewed the show for more seasons, and the latest season was released on January 24, 2022, and concluded on December 19, 2022, on TBS. The show has been renewed for two more seasons.
The 20th season is set to release on March 27, 2023, however, the developers have not revealed any specific release date for the 21st season. It is hard to predict the episode number at this moment since the previous seasons consisted of different numbers of the episode.
