American singing competition television series ‘American Idol’ has been termed as the most impactful show in television history. It has spawned around 345 Billboard chart-toppers and a platoon of pop idols that includes Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry, Fantasia, Ruben Studdard, Jennifer Hudson, Clay Aiken, Adam Lambert, and Jordin Sparks. Consecutively for eight years, the show has been ranked in the first position in U.S. television ratings. The show’s success has been explained as unparalleled in broadcasting history.

The show started as an extra to the Idols format based on Pop Idol from British television and has been one of the most successful shows in American television history. The concept of the show involves discovering recording stars from unsigned singing talents and the winner is chosen by the American public with the use of phones, Internet, and SMS text voting. The show has been a recognized platform that launched the career of many artists and made them popular in the singing industry.

Judges of American Idol Season 4

The judges panel of the 4th season of American Idol is having popular judges like Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie. Bobby Bones has also returned as the mentor. The show is being hosted and produced by Ryan Seacrest.

Premiere of American Idol Season 4

The fourth season of American Idol has already premiered on 14th February 2021 on ABC television network. This is the fourth season that has aired on ABC after the revival of the series. It airs every Sunday at 8:00 p.m. and has been able to get decent feedback from the audience.

Auditions of American Idol Season 4

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic in the United States, the show decided to go through the process of live virtual auditions for the first time and this was done through Idol Across America program that used custom-built Zoom technology to check the way the audition was done in the last season but in a home environment. The remote auditions started on 10th August and ended on 28th October 2020 in around 50 states along with Washington D.C. and open call auditions. The producers used to select some contestants for an audition in front of the judges.

The judges auditions took place in 3 different locations of California – Los Angeles, San Diego, and Ojai. This was because of travel restrictions imposed as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. The judges audition started on 5th October 2020 where health and safety protocols were properly followed and separate tables were provided for judges and regular Covid testing was done for the cast and crew.
