Marcella just got over with its third season on June 14, 2020, and the fans are left with a major cliffhanger and made the story even more complicated than ever. Well, there hasn’t been any confirmation regarding the new season, but if it’s coming back, we are sure that it is going to take some time to commence the shoot because of the pandemic. It is written, directed and produced by Swedish screenwriter Hans Rosenfeldt, and was first broadcasted on ITV back in April 2016.
What about the Last Season?
The last episode of the latest season couldn’t have ended with more drama. The story dug deeper this time, scavenging darker sides of the human mind. Now estranged from her husband, Marcella shredded her old identity as a detective sergeant entirely, dying her hair blonde and calling herself Keira. She used this new identity to infiltrate a major crime family in Belfast. She balanced with her both personalities; Marcella, stable and focused, on the other hand, Keira, impulsive and fickle. All of a sudden, her pasts started appearing in front of her eyes, like the newspaper clips from her old cases. She soon realized that her real identity is fading away gradually. She fights Keira with Marcella.
Though Marcella used to blackout because of her mental state, there’s an interesting turn when it comes to her life as Keira. As Marcella, those blackouts were reserved for her violent outbursts. But now that her violent secretive nature has fully taken control. Keira’s blackouts serve as a pathway for her to get back to her old self, a bridge linking the personality gap. The final scene of Season 3 sees Marcella on a plane with baby Katie. She’s now put her old life behind her and has fully gained control of both of her selves.
Marcella has the backdrop in the city of London and the Port of Dover. After their broadcast on ITV, episodes are available to stream on Netflix outside the United Kingdom. But an interesting fact; the last season was streamed first on Netflix, rather than on ITV.
The series stars Anna Friel as Detective Marcella, who was awarded the InternationalEmmy Award for Best Actress, along with Nicholas Pinnock as Jason, Jamie Bamber as Inspector Tim, Ray Panthaki as Detective Rav, Jack Doolan as Detective Mark and many more.
