Some people build a career in music, while some are born for it. For PHE, it has been a mix of both. PHE is a singer, songwriter, and producer who has made a lot of noise last year. With two hit singles and many more on the way, we take a look at this wizard of Afrobeat.
PHE was born Azriel Reckley in Abaca, Bahamas. He had a keen interest in music right from the beginning. He was a drummer at his church when he was just 5 and then became the lead drummer at his school band. But the artist truly started his music career when he was signed by Drop Dead Beats in Miami. Still learning and improving, PHE got the chance to work with some amazing artists and producers. These include superstars like Jason Derulo, Pit Bull, Shawn Mendes, and Jim Jonsin.
The first shining moment in PHE’s career was when he wrote the song “I Love It” for Kevin Gate’s album “Islah”. The song went on to achieve double-platinum status and the artist’s name started getting whispered in the music industry. But the best was yet to come.In 2020, PHE collaborated with Italian producer Kybba for the song “Calling My Name”. The song, which was released last summer by Basshall Records, was loved for its amazing sound. It featured in curated and fan-made playlists across platforms and countries. As of today, it has been streamed more than a million times. PHE was now a name to be reckoned among peers and fans alike. But the artist had no time to rest. He soon collaborated with John FX, a 10x platinum-certified and multi—billboard producer, as well as Kybba. Together, they dropped the song “Call Me Crazy” in November last year. The song was well-received for its sweet music and smooth flow of beats. In just a month, it was streamed more than 100,000 times.
But what drives PHE as a musician? Just one word: passion. Music was also the most integral aspect of PHE’s personality, and he could not imagine his world without it. He is constantly trying to learn and improve his skills. He considers himself fortunate that he has got the chance to work with some of the best artists out there. But the singer is not a stranger to struggles either. When he first moved to Miami, it was a strange world to him. His kindness was considered a weakness, his earnestness was exploited. But PHE persisted and stayed true to his core values. Today, he is reaping the benefits.
The year 2021 is set to be even better for the artist. His EP, titled “Wild Times”, will release 5 more singles. All of these songs will be of Afrobeat style that will showcase the artist’s unique talent. The project is being built under the supervision of Christine ‘Spiky’ Malvasio and Royalty Respect Management. The EP can be a gamechanger for African artists looking for a breakthrough in the American music industry. Let’s hope the artist stays true to the hopes his fans have held for him.
