Babylon’s Fall: Release Date, Trailer, and Gameplay!

A collaboration between RPG masters Square Enix and action specialists Platinum Games, Babylon’s Fall looks to be a healthy mix of Devil May Cry’s over-the-top action and a Dark Souls-esque fantasy setting.

Here’s everything we know about Babylon’s Fall:

Release Date

Originally announced in 2018 at E3, and slated for release in 2019, Babylon’s Fall has suffered multiple delays. With no official release date still announced by either Square Enix or Platinum Games, we can only speculate that the title will drop sometime in 2021.

It was announced earlier that the title would be available for PlayStation 4 and PC, however, there’s no news on a PlayStation 5 coming out.

We don’t know much about the game outside of the trailer, which showed a knight fighting several, much larger knights with floating oversized swords. Platinum Games are known for their action games and this release looks to follow along those lines – with fluid, frenetic swordplay against literally larger-than-life enemies, Babylon’s Fall looks to provide medieval fantasy action like no other.

The game also uses a “Brushwork Filter”, giving the entire game a brushstroke visual art style which makes it seem like a giant moving oil painting – which ties in nicely with the game’s (loose) historical theme.

Developer Updates

Earlier this summer further news about Babylon’s Fall had indeed arrived, albeit not of the sort originally promised. In a new statement posted to Twitter, Platinum offered only a minor development update, writing, “While we hoped to reveal more about the game this summer, we can share that development on Babylon’s Fall is continuing to progress well, with the team working safely from home”.

“Square Enix and Platinum Games are committed to delivering an exhilarating experience,” the developer’s statement concluded, “and we look forward to showcasing much more on Babylon’s Fall to you as soon as we can”.

While we don’t have an exact release date still, we can speculate a late 2021 release for Babylon’s Fall.
