The DC comics-based show ‘Black Lightning’ is a drama television series about a superhero of the same name, created by Tony Isabella and Trevor Van Eden. A show developed by Salim Akil premiered on The CW on January 16, 2018. Originally, the project was in works with Fox and was given a pilot production commitment in September 2016, however, in February 2017, Fox passed on the project and The CW thereafter picked it up with an order for a new pilot script.
The show has a whole variety of reviews, while some argue that the show is a waste of time, many others contradict by saying this has to be The CW’s best show. The characters are well-crafted and extremely witty making you wish you were a part of the Pierce family.
WHAT IS ‘BLACK LIGHTNING’ ABOUT?
The story begins with Jefferson Pierce who seems like just another guy. He is the principal of a school, a teacher and a father, which seems regular, but he is hiding a secret! If it isn’t obvious by now, the secret is he’s Black Lightning, a superhero who helps people of Freeland. At the start, no one is aware of this except his wife but after numerous risks to his life, he decides to give up being a superhero for good.
However, one day his daughter Jennifer Pierce gets into trouble dealing with the local gang The One Hundred. Jefferson has no option but to put on his suit and go safe his daughter. The community of Freeland wondered if Black Lightning was back for good? Although Jefferson was reluctant to the idea initially, he decided to resurrect his superhero persona.
He is not alone for long though. He is accompanied by two other superheroes: Thunder and Lightning. Thunder is Anissa Pierce and Lightning is Jennifer Pierce. Yes, just as their name suggests, they are Jefferson’s daughters. At first, he was reluctant towards his daughters risking their lives but eventually, he embraces it.
IS ‘BLACK LIGHTNING’ COMING BACK FOR SEASON 4? IF YES, THEN WHEN?
YES! I am pleased to inform you that Black Lightning is coming back for the 4th season. The network approved for the renewal of the show sometime around January 2020 and if everything goes according to plan, the season is to premiere sometime around January 2021.
‘BLACK LIGHTNING’ CAST AND CHARACTERS OF SEASON 4:
- Cress Williams as Jefferson Pierce / Black Lightning: The principal of the school, a retired superhero who returns to fighting after his daughter gets kidnapped by the local gang.
- China Anne McClain as Jennifer Pierce / Lightning: Jefferson’s younger daughter, who is later revealed to also possess powers to electric manipulation.
- Nafessa Williams as Anissa Pierce / Thunder / Blackbird: Jefferson’s elder daughter who is in med school. She has the ability to manipulate her density with her breathing, endowing herself with superhuman strength and durability.
- Christine Adams as Lynn Stewart: Jefferson’s ex-wife and his love interest. Out of concerns for the family, she divorced him.
- Marvin “Krondon” Jones III as Tobias Whale: Black Lightning’s nemesis. A former politician who rose through the ranks of local government through corrupt and illegal means.
