Black Widow: Release Date, Cast, Plot and more!

Black Widow is an upcoming American superhero movie based on the Marvel Comics series of the same name. Developed by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is planned as 24th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film was directed by Cate Shortland and adapted by Eric Pearson from the tale by Jac Schaeffer and Ned Benson, and stars Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow alongside Florence Pugh, David Harbour, O-T Fagbenle, William Hurt, Ray Winstone, and Rachel Weisz. Set after Captain America: Civil War (2016), the film shows Romanoff on the move, compelled to face her history.

The production of a Black Widow film began in April 2004 with Lionsgate, with David Hayter attached to writing and directing. The script did not go forward and the film rights to the character returned to Marvel Studios by June 2006. Johansson has ben in the role of many MCU movies starting with Iron Man 2 (2010).

Marvel and Johansson shared their interest in a solo film several times during the following years, until Schaeffer and Shortland were recruited in 2018. Benson joined at the beginning of 2019, adding Pearson later. The filming took place in Norway, Budapest, Morocco, Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom, and in Atlanta and Macon, Georgia, from May to October.

According to Wikipedia, “Following the events of Captain America: Civil War (2016), Natasha Romanoff finds herself alone and forced to confront a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Romanoff must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.”

WHEN IS BLACK WIDOW RELEASING?

Black Widow is scheduled to be released in the United States on 7 May 2021 as the MCU’s first Phase Four film. Its launch was postponed twice from the original date of May 2020 due to the pandemic of COVID-19.
