Call Me by Your Name was a coming-of-age romantic drama that came out in 2017 and swooned its audiences. The film was based on André Aciman’s 2007 novel of the same name. The film was both a critical and commercial success. It grossed $41.9 million, made on a budget of $3.5 million. The film also won a number of awards, including an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, at the 90th Academy Awards. The film was directed by Italian director Luca Guadagnino and distributed by Sony Pictures in the United States.
Call Me by Your Name 2- What we know so far
After the success of the first film, director Luca Guadagnino had revealed that he was indeed working on a sequel for the film. Call Me by Your Name ended with Oliver returning back to the U.S. and Elio left back in Italy with the memories of the time he spent with Oliver. However, the book from which the film was adapted does not end that way. It includes at the end an epilogue in which Elio and Oliver meet again in the future. Elio visits now married-with-kids Oliver in the United States, fifteen years after they first met.
Director Guadagnino has hinted that the sequel will be set five or six years after the first film, sometime in the 1980s. He was also quoted as saying,
“The novel has 40 pages at the end that goes through the next 20 years of the lives of Elio and Oliver, so there is some sort of indication through the intention of author André Aciman that the story can continue.”
However, what we can say for sure is that the film won’t be called Call Me by Your Name 2, as Guadagnino said,
“The only problem is the title. “It cannot be ‘Call Me by Your Name Two’.”
