Canada’s emerging music composer, Marc Marut, a.k.a., Cool Ass talks on COVID-19, friendship, and self-belief

There is a time in everyone’s life when the person hits a 360-degree turn caused by any sudden shock, like that of anyone’s demise or even a friend’s betrayal. And for the latter part, there is always a fire in us to prove them wrong and make them regret their decision. That’s what Canada’s actor and emerging music composer, Marc Marut, a.k.a Cool Ass thought when he had a fight with his long term friend. The story’s genesis was in 2014 when his friend suddenly unfriended on Facebook after he confronted her regarding her attitude towards him for months. And for good, we were gifted with Cool Ass and his music. Music generally comes out of his mind when he is angry at something, and after this incident, he crafted his tunes within 10 minutes, inside his head. He said, “I was really angry and it was full of really bad words, which made me laugh. It was also extremely catchy, I was bopping my head around and listening to it in my brain.” Nowadays, people get offended with simple things way too much, and its a fact. Artists and composers always have to think several times before releasing their albums, even though it is not harming anyone’s sentiments. But for how long will it be stopped? This was the big step taken up by Marc and released his first song, “Song of a Bitch“, starring Nataliee G, and that’s when Cool Ass was born. He wanted the song to hit us like a rock sound, but also a bit of electric influence in there. This idea came from his childhood inspirations, like Veruca Salt, Nirvana, and Weezer.

Even though his music singles might be a recent thing, Marc already had deep and vast knowledge in the field of music, ever since he fell into his acting career at the age of nine. He is famously known for shows like The Paperboy (1994) and Road to Avonlea. When asked about his stage name, he explains the meaning of it. Cool Ass is not just a random stage name or a bold move to show the world, but rather it’s more of an attitude, self-respect, and belief in oneself. You need to be kind enough and do good to other people, and side-by-side be kind to yourself. And no doubt, he doth composes cool ass music. That’s been proven by his recent project, “F*ck You Covid-19“, which was released on June 19, 2020. The song vents out his frustration (and in some ways ours too) upon seeing the world around him. Lives have come to a halt, and everything is a mess. It might sound dramatic, but the whole Covid-19 situation is nothing short of an apocalypse.  Every time you turn on the TV, there is a flood of news of deaths. The only way out was the virtual world and the anxiety of not being able to meet with your loved ones has all been jotted down in his song. If you still haven’t checked it out, please do below:

Talking about his future endeavors, he still hasn’t disclosed anything yet but he has written many songs during the period, and just is waiting to get recorded. You can find him on his website coolass.tv or his social media (Instagram and Facebook).
