Captain Marvel was the twenty-first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and was the first female superhero film in the MCU. The film was both a critical and commercial success. It garnered $1.1 billion at the global box office, becoming the first female superhero film to do so. The film was set in the year 1995. It follows the story of Carol Danvers becoming Captain Marvel, who is caught in a fight between the Kree and the Skrulls. The film ends with Carol Danvers leaving Earth to help the Skrulls find a new home, and leaving Nick Fury with a “pager” to contact her in case of emergency. The mid-credits scene of the film tied up with the events in Avengers: Infinity War.
A sequel to the film was announced by Marvel boss Kevin Feige at the San Diego Comic-Con in July 2019.
Cast of Captain Marvel 2
Brie Larson will be back for the sequel as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel. In February 2019, she had expressed her interest in introducing the character Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel to the MCU. Although this character might not be a part of the sequel, we can expect to see the character of Monica Rambeau back for the sequel. Monica Rambeau is also part of the Disney+ series WandaVision, so we can expect to see a grown up version of her in the sequel. Lashana Lynch might also be back for the sequel, given her character Maria Rambeau’s strong bond with Carol Danvers in the first film. Another cast member that fans would love to see be back is Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson. Whether he returns for the sequel or not is yet to be confirmed. In August 2020, Nia DaCosta was hired to direct the sequel.
Release Date of Captain Marvel 2
Captain Marvel 2 will be set in the present day, presumably after the events of Avengers: Endgame. The film is scheduled to release on July 8, 2022.
