Created by Chris Fedak and Sam Sklaver for the Fox Broadcasting Company, Prodigal Son is an American crime drama television series. It is premiered on September 23, 2019. In October 2019, the series was picked up for a full season. In May 2020, the series was renewed for a second season which is set to premiere on January 12, 2021.
Two-time Tony Award winner Christian Borleand Michael Potts is set to recur opposite Michael Sheen and Tom Payne on the second season of Fox’s serial-killer thriller drama Prodigal Son. Prodigal Son was the No. 1 new series last fall and reached 8.9 million viewers across multiple platforms in its first season.
The hour-long drama stars Michael Sheen as the captured serial killer known as “The Surgeon” and Tom Payne as his son, a profiler working with NYPD. Borle will play Friar Pete, a psychiatric patient imprisoned with Sheen’s character, and Potts portrays Dr Marsh, a new therapist in the ward.
The series centers on Malcolm Bright, whose father, Martin Whitly, is the infamous serial killer known as “The Surgeon”. As a child, Malcolm was responsible for enabling the police to arrest his father, and has not seen his father in ten years after joining Quantico.
In Season 2 of Prodigal Son, Bright “must ‘take care’ of his sister and protect his mother, Jessica Whitly, from a secret that could tear the family apart all over again,” Fox provides. “Further complicating matters, Martin seeks to deepen his relationship with Bright, his ‘prodigal son,’ but forging this bond leads to shocking twists and revelations.”
Season two of Prodigal Son premieres at 9 p.m. Tuesday, on January 12, on Fox.
