One of Hollywood’s most intelligent directors, well-known for making scintillating mind-bending movies, Christopher Nolan, finally makes a comment regarding the release date of his upcoming sci-fi thriller, Tenet. The film was ideally set to launch theatres globally in July and there was no word from their side about postponing its release despite the ongoing pandemic crisis.
Except for Tenet, all other films of Warner Bros. have been postponed to 2021 due to the strict social distancing measures being followed to counter the spread of the virus. But Nolan wants to make his latest work historic by wanting it to be the movie that re-opens the theatres from lockdown. IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond told Independent in a voice-call interview, “Chris really would like to be coming out with the film that opens theatres. I don’t know anyone in America who is pushing harder than Chris Nolan to have the theatres open and to have his movie released in July when it’s scheduled for.”
Warner Bros. is ready to release the film on its original date 17th July if 80 percent of the cinemas reopen by that time, otherwise, they will reschedule it for 14th August or even later. But Nolan fans were desperate to hear a final verdict from Nolan himself. Finally, to put an end to the debate sparked off among his Fanclub about the premiere date, Nolan said to Total Film, “We’re finishing the film, and the film will be ready for when theaters reopen. I think, at this stage, that is all there is to say about it, really.” His words gave a sigh of relief to the fans who don’t want to miss out on the film theatres at the cost of becoming exposed to COVID-19.
Known for his masterpieces Inception, Prestige, Interstellar, and Dunkirk, Nolan’s next project Tenet will explore the novel concept of ‘inverse time’, where the stars John David Washington and Robert Pattinson unlock the secrets and implications of time running backward.
