In celebration of the SaGa series’ 30th anniversary, the first three games in the series are coming to Nintendo Switch in one collection!

On the 15th of December the first three SaGa series games — The Final Fantasy Legend, Final Fantasy Legend 2, and Final Fantasy Legend 3 — are being brought to the Nintendo Switch, courtesy of Square Enix. The games will be available as –Collection of SaGa Final Fantasy Legend.

Its release was made public at a Nintendo Mini Direct, by Square Enix and Nintendo, on Wednesday via a surprise drop on YouTube.

Final Fantasy Legend was released in 1989 in Japan, followed by Final Fantasy Legend 2 in 1990, and Final Fantasy Legend 3 in 1991 were all released for the Nintendo Game Boy system. Newer games in the series have been released periodically over the years with the latest title, Imperial SaGa Eclipse, making its debut in 2019.

These three titles are considered to be the foundation of the SaGa series of RPGs from Square Enix that began in 1989 as a spin-off of the original Final Fantasy game, and which was only the second Square Enix series to see an international release.

“New enhancements” have been introduced to Collection of SaGa Final Fantasy Legend such as a high-speed mode, “adjustable screen magnification,” and “game screen background customization.” Players will also be able to turn the Nintendo Switch vertically — with Joy-Cons removed — to play that way as well, for a more retro-Game Boy-like experience.

The Game Boy units of these games were among the first Game Boy RPGs at the time to cross over a million units at sales according to Nintendo.

The collection seems like a nice present for all retro-video game and Final Fantasy fans, just in time for Christmas.
