Mission Impossible 7 was set to release in June 2021. Paramount Pictures announced that shooting has come to a standstill due to the ongoing pandemic. Its release has now been pushed to November of 2021, leaving several fans dejected. Mission Impossible 8 is said to release in August 2022.
Recap
Mission Impossible, if you aren’t aware, is an American spy film franchise starring Tom Cruise as protagonist Ethan Hunt. The latest parts of the film have been directed by Christopher McQuarrie. These movies are a sequel to the Mission Impossible TV Series created by Bruce Geller.
Was the delay to be expected?
This news is not very surprising as the entire world has come to a stop due to COVID-19. The entertainment industry is suffering losses due to the stoppage of production midway. The release dates of parts 7 and 8 of the franchise were announced all the way back in 2019 when no one was aware of the plight that 2020 would bring. It is unfortunate though, that the filming of the 7th part began in Italy in February of this year but this was soon stopped in March. These two parts will be the first films from the franchise that will be releasing outside of summer, barring ‘Ghost Protocol’.
Further Details
The plots for the seventh and eighth parts have not been disclosed yet. However, these will most definitely star Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt (the spirit of the franchise). He will be accompanied by Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson). Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg) and White Widow (Vanessa Kirby) are also said to return. Eugene Kittridge (Henry Czerny) will make his return for the first time since the initial Mission Impossible film.
Mission Impossible has never failed to impress fans despite its multiple sequels. It is one of the few franchises that improves as it goes on. And we are sure that despite the delays, the next two parts will not disappoint us.
