Creators will now be able to sell items on Instagram directly

Facebook-owned Instagram is getting a major overhaul that will benefit the creators and influencers. The Social Media Giant announced one of its latest developments at F8. Creators now have the ability to tag and sell items directly to the people that views their Posts and Stories.

The feature will start with small group of creators over the next few weeks. The list includes influencers like Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian West, Laura Kim, Gigi Hadid, Ronnie Feig, Leesa Angelique. The @saythelees owner said it’s her job to share beauty secrets and tips and used to write long, detailed captions about the latest products she uses. Now it will be much easier to let everyone know what she is wearing and from where.

A spokesperson said people are already shopping from creators by asking products questions in comments. With this new ability, creators can easily provide information to their followers. This feature will not only help in expressing themselves but also making their followers happy.

However, the influencers will not get a part of the revenue. Instagram says the feature aims to cut down some of the repeat questions the creators get. The queries are mostly about what they are wearing and from where they can buy one. The creators will be getting additional insights with shopping posts, such as engagements and shopping insights. The people that are making a living out of their influencer status might get better deals with brands in future.

For now, the monetization is limited to items that are tagged from business as part of the new Instagram checkout beta program in US. The move is a part of a bigger transactional swing that extends beyond catering to consumerism and influencers connecting to their billion-plus user base.

Instagram also confirmed that it will be adding donation stickers in Stories. This feature is currently available in the USA and all the donations made would go straight to the non-profit organisation.
