Disney has this weird habit of remaking our favorite childhood animated movies, again and again, presenting them with more advanced graphics and technologies, making it more real every time. And we, on the other hand, cannot help but feel upset about how we didn’t take our childhood seriously and incomes a severe bad trip. After remaking of Lion King and Aladin, Disney has planned to present to us American crime comedy film Cruella, the very character Cruella de Vil introduced in Dodie Smith’s 1956 novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians and Walt Disney’s 1961 animated film One Hundred and One Dalmatians. Yet one more time, we are going to have a nostalgia trip in the theatres. Cruella is scheduled to be released on May 28, 2021, by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Initially, the scheduled date was December 23, 2020, but thanks to the pandemic, it is pushed to next year. So, the fans need to hold on and wait a little longer.
Emma Stone is going to play the part of Cruella de Vil; Emma Thompson as the Baroness; Paul Walter Hauser as Horace; Joel Fry as Jasper; Mark Strong as Boris; Emily Beecham as Anita; Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Tabitha; and Jamie Demetriou as Gerald. Let’s just say, the casting couldn’t have been better. The film has been directed by Craig Gillespie, and the screenplay written by Aline Brosh McKenna, Jez Butterworth, Dana Fox, Kelly Marcel, Tony McNamara, and Steve Zissis. The filming wrapped on November 26, 2019.
There hasn’t been much information released about the new things going into the remake, but it is anticipated that the storyline would remain the same with a touch of the present generation so that today’s kids can still enjoy as much as their elders.
Cruella was in talks for a very long time, even dating back to 2011. Andrew Gunn has produced the film, with Glenn Close serving. as executive producer. Close is already closely attached to the franchise since she played the lead role back in the 1996 film 101 Dalmatians.
