Created by Graham Roland, Dark Winds is an American psychological thriller television series. It is based on the Leaphorn & Chee novel series by Tony Hillerman. Ronald is also the executive producer alongside Zahn McClarnon, George R. R. Martin, Robert Redford, Tina Elmo, Vince Gerardis, Vince Calandra, and Chris Eyre.

The series premiered on AMC and AMC+ on June 12, 2022, with the first season consisting of six episodes. The series received a positive response from critics, currently, it holds a 100% approval rating from the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. Considering that, in June 2022, the series was renewed for a second season.

The upcoming season is expected to pick up from the finale episode of the first season, HózhóoNaasháa, released on July 17, 2022. The episode was directed By Chris Eyre, and Sanford Bookstaver, and written By Maya Rose Dittloff.

The official synopsis of the episode states, “Leaphorn, Chee, and Manuelito descend on the hiding place of the Buffalo Society, only to be confronted with hard decisions that could change the outcome of the rest of their lives.”

So, it is expected that this already established premise will lead to the pilot episode of Dark Winds Season 2. It’s also rumored to pick up any potential cliffhangers and subplots in the first episode of the following season and dive right into this world with more experiments, giving fans something new to look at instead of the same old themes.

As a result, enticing fans to stream the series is vital for the network to generate the best possible content and plot while placing these beloved characters first.

The first season’s original cast is anticipated to return and carry the storyline into the next season. They are Zahn McClarnon as Joe Leaphorn, Kiowa Gordon as Jim Chee, Jessica Matten as Bernadette Manuelito, Deanna Allison as Emma, and Rainn Wilson as Devoted Dan.

In June 2022, AMC renewed the series for a six-episode second season. Keep in mind that the renewal was announced a few days ago, so it is hard to predict a release date for Dark Winds season 2.

But on the bright side, it is speculated that the upcoming season will not be delayed and will be released sooner than anticipated, which means the release date will be sometime around early to mid-2023.
