The 16th season of Discovery reality TV show Deadliest Catch set sail on April 14. Fans of the show were keen to find out who is on board one more deadly adventure crab fishing. The captains of FV Wizard, Keith and Monte Colburn, are ready to grind with their team. But did show’s most infamous deckhand, Freddy Maugatai, make it as crew member for a third consecutive year? Notably, Freddy has also a part of the FVs Cornelia Marie and Time Bandits as a deckhand in the previous seasons. He was also a deckhand for the Wizard before he got replaced.
Where is Freddy?
From Freddy’s social media activity there was no indication towards him being a crew member of any ships of Deadliest Catch for the 2019 crab fishing season. Initially, he left his home on 26th December for Dutch Harbor, Alaska. But after a few days later he disclosed that he was marching towards Polar Sea this season with Captain Jorge.
He had posted of Facebook, “The hardest part of my job when I say goodbye [to these] 3 I love the most,” adjacent to the pictures of family, consisting of his wife and two children who were born twins. Apparently he had a hard making it to the boat as he got stuck at the Anchorage for 3 days. “We need an angel from above for some miracle [to] happen… I can’t afford this, I got kids to feed.” he shared on social media. Luckily he finally managed to get on board.
Freddy’s controversies: Both on-screen and off-screen
This 47-year-old Samoan TV personality has been a center of a few acute controversies. In the 2011 season, he was a deckhand for Wizard. But he got fired for non-compliance with orders given by Captian Monte. He returned in season 14 when Monte agreed to keep their differences at bay and make the most that fishing season productively. But the rift between them re-ignited when Monte made the comment that Tyler Gateman was a stronger deckhand than Freddy.
Off the screen, back in 2011, Freddy had been arrested for a bathroom fight in a hotel on Amaknak Island. He had also been accused to injure the wife of the person he had a fight with. Despite the fact that injuries were apparent on women’s arm, Freddy claimed he did not even touch a woman.
Fans really wish for less trouble for Freddy and would love to see the maverick deckhand return to Deadliest Catch for another adventure.
