Deaf U: Release Date, Structure, and Details!

Deaf U is an upcoming Netflix docuseries which is produced by activist, model and actor Nyle DiMarco (“America’s Next Top Model”). This series is different from other docuseries as it gives us a chance to look at the day-to-day lives of a tight-knit group of deaf college students.

“I wanted to see diversity and layers in the community,” said DiMarco.

Well, it will be quite interesting to experience the journey of these extraordinary students through their eyes.

Release Date and Trailer:

Deaf U is all set to premiere on the streaming platform Netflix on 9th October 2020. The series is all about breaking boun daring and stereotypes. Deaf people or people with disabilities are no different from us, they enjoy lives as much as we do. Catch a glimpse of the trailer below:

What is it about?

The official description of Deaf U on Netflix goes  “In this reality series, a tight-knit group of Deaf and hard of hearing students share their stories and explore life at Gallaudet University.” Gallaudet University situated in Washington, D.C is a private college for the deaf and hard of hearing community. The docuseries takes us on the inside journey of these students as they deal with their day to day lives and difficulties that the community has to face. This series is raw and real, we will get to see the unseen realities of the deaf community. Students from all different parts of the country, from the East Coast to the Midwest, all came to Gallaudet with various deaf backgrounds.

“The point of it all is that deaf people are human. We’re the same as human people, we go through the same as hearing people,” DiMarco shared.

Who is in it?

Although the series does give us a glance of the University students of Gallaudet. The main faces that feature in the docuseries are Daequan Taylor, Cheyanna Clearbrook, Renate Rose and Rodney Buford.

“One thing I think people will learn is that deaf people can do what you all do. The only thing we can’t do is hear, and that’s all. We do have our own college; we do have our own culture….the culture is so rich,” Burford shared.
