Death in Paradise is a British-French crime drama television series created by Robert Thorogood, starring Ben Miller (series 1–2, guest series 3 and 10), Kris Marshall (series 3–6), Ardal O’Hanlon (series 6–9) and Ralf Little (series 9-present). The programme is the joint UK and French production. The French-language version is Meurtres au Paradis (in French). The programme is filmed on the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe and broadcast on BBC One in the United Kingdom, France 2 in France, PBS in the United States and Australia’s ABC. Death in Paradise has enjoyed high ratings, leading to repeated renewals. An eighth series was broadcast from 10 January 2019 to 28 February 2019. It was announced the same day that a ninth and a tenth series had been commissioned. Filming for series nine started in May 2019.
British detective Richard Poole (Ben Miller) is assigned to investigate the murder of a British police officer on the fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie. After he finds the murderer, he is ordered by his supervisors to replace the victim and stay on as the head detective inspector (DI) of the island, solving new cases as they appear and being the object of many fish-out-of-water jokes.
Death in Paradise season 10 begins on Thursday 7th January 2021 at 9 pm on BBC One.
Filming for season 10 had been due to begin in April 2020, but (as you might guess) it had to be called off thanks to the global pandemic. Announcing the news, creator Robert Thorogood said: “We’re all a bit thrown, to say the least, but we’ll be back – at some point – and look forward to starting killing people again as soon as possible.”
Then, in July 2020, production resumed on the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe. And after a massive effort by cast and crew, the show will arrive on our screen in time for its usual January airdate on BBC One.
