Derry Girls Season 3: Release Date, Trailer and more!

Created and written by Lisa McGee, Derry Girls is a teen sitcom produced for Channel 4. Directed by Michael Lennox, it has been the channel’s most successful comedy show since Father Ted.

The show is produced by British production company Hat Trick Productions, and is mostly filmed in Northern Ireland, with most of the scenes shot on location in Derry and a few in Belfast. The first season of the series was released in August 2018 followed by the second season in March and April 2019.

The series has received decent feedback from critics. Season 1 holds an approval rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes whereas the second has a rating of 97%. It has been renewed for a third season, scheduled to premiere soon.

Derry Girls Plot and Cast

The plot for the new season has not been revealed. However, Nicola Coughlan has previously wrote on Twitter that he storylines would be the best they have ever done.

We would also get to see how the ceasefire affects the gang. Lisa McGee also admitted that there might be romance in the air for James and Erin, who seems to be jealous of his potential love interest at the end of the second season.

While speaking to Radio Times, Lisa said that it might be interesting to explore that a bit more because they are great together. She also stated that he potential is there and it is something she is interested in seeing and she could toy with it next season, although she is not sure.

Talking to the cast, we should get to see Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Louisa Harland, Nicola Coughlin, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell and Dylan Llewellyn in the lead roles. Apart from them, there is a possibility that Tara Lynne O’Neill, Tommy Tiernan, Kathy Kiera Clarke, Ian McElhinney and Siobhan McSweeney might return.

Derry Girls Season 3 Release Date

Although the makers are yet to confirm an official release date, the third season of Derry Girls is expected to release sometime in 2022. However, it was previously reported that filming for Season 3 concluded in 2021.

The upcoming season is expected to have six episodes like the first two seasons. Further changes in cast and crew might be unveiled in the next few months.
