The ending of Disney’s latest sci-fi thriller Artemis Fowl has already set up a potential plot for a sequel to follow. The theatrical release of the film was stuck due to COVID-19 lockdowns so Disney shifted its release to its newly launched streaming platform Disney+ and launched the Kenneth Branagh directorial on 12th June. The film is a loose adaption of Eoin Colfer’s fantasy Young-Adult novel series going by the same name.
The plot of Disney’s Artemis Fowl is very different from Colfer’s books. The genius 12-year old Artemis Fowl Jr. has learned about a secret fantasy from his father, Artemis Fowl Sr., who has been kidnapped after being accused of being a master thief. Artemis Jr. embarks on a journey alongside his companions Butler, Holly Short, and Mulch Diggings to rescue his father. Artemis Sr. can return safely to Fowl Manner only if Artemis Jr. can find the location of Aculos, which opens doorways to other realms of the universe. With the precious help of his friends, Artemis succeeds in his rescue mission and in the process screws up the evil plans Opal Koboi, the film’s mysterious villain.
To show off his success, Artemis calls Opal to talk about his victory. But while talking Artemis finds out that he has become a part of something bigger and more mysterious. On the other side, Holly is all set to investigate the death of his father, Beechwood, who died while protecting Aculos from Opal. Holly and Artemis aided by the fairies will find their way back battling against Opal in Artemis Fowl 2.
Currently, the bigger question for Disney as of now is not about the plot of its sequel, but whether to give a sequel or not in the first place. The film has been ruthlessly slammed by both viewers and the critics. In such a scenario it is difficult for Artemis Fowl 2 to see the light of the day. But by any chance, if it is coming, we already an idea what it is going to be about!
