The premise of Disney Dreamlight Valley is set in a magical world called Dreamlight Valley. The game can be played in real-time and the player just needs to explore the valley to find resources. They need to clear the Night Thorns which are said to be plants having some kind of dark power.

There is a facility to cook food at a cooking station in an oven or a campfire. The player also needs to eat food to save more energy and the same thing is needed for using magic-imbued tools like a pickaxe, shovel, fishing rod, and watering can. Meals can also add more energy, and furniture alongside other items can be put in the valley or at the house of the player.

The gamer can make changes to his appearance on different occasions and tools can be chosen with the help of a wheel. The player also needs to collect Star Coins while playing the game. They can be used for purchasing crops and seeds. The players have the option of speaking to the villagers alongside the heroes and villains. He can also offer gifts and complete quests.
