Emergence is a mystery-themed thriller television series on ABC. Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas have created the series of ABC Studios. After a pilot for Emergence was ordered by NBC, the series was picked up by ABC and added to their 2019-20 broadcast schedule. Emergence premiered on September 24, 2019, and ended on January 28, 2020; with the first season consisting of 13 episodes.

The official website of the show describes it premise as-

“A character-driven genre thriller, Emergence is about a police chief who takes in a young child she finds near the site of a mysterious accident who has no memory of what has happened. The investigation draws her into a conspiracy larger than she ever imagined, and the child’s identity is at the center of it all.”

The cast of Emergence includes Allison Tolman playing the role of police chief Jo Evans, and Alexa Swinton as Piper, who is a young girl with unique powers and the sole survivor of the plane crash; as well as Owain Yeoman, Ashley Aufderheide, Robert Bailey Jr., Zabryna Guevara, Donald Faison, and Clancy Brown playing the roles of Benny Gallagher, Mia Evans, Chris Minetto, Dr. Abby Fraiser, Alex Evans, and Ed Sawyer, respectively.

Emergence Season 1 Ratings

The first season of Emergence averaged a rating of 0.49 in the 18-49 demographic and had an average of 2.71 million viewers across the first season. Compared to other shows on ABC, Emergence came in at number 18, when sorted by ratings, and at number 14, when sorted by viewership, in ABC’s list of scripted shows for 2019-20.

On Rotten Tomatoes, Emergence has a Tomatometer rating of 94%, and on Metacritic, it has a score of 69 out of 100. Emergence season 1 has received generally positive reviews, with praise given to its storyline and the capacity to keep the viewers engaged till the end.

Emergence Season 2 – Is it happening or not?

Despite the positive reviews and the engaging storyline, Emergence will not be returning for a second season. The poor network ratings and the low viewership numbers compelled ABC to cancel the series in May 2020, after just one season.
