If we talk in general terms, then teen-drama(s) follow a particular pattern- boy meets girl, girl meets boy, a lot of cringy actions go around them, and a whole superficial atmosphere is enveloping them. Most of the circumstances shown are not even linked to real life. And the main motive of such storylines is to give false hopes to its viewers. On the greener side, there are some shows which pull out and put the spotlight on the dark actuality of human existence. And luckily, Euphoria is one such show. They deal with teenage sexuality, drug use, peer pressure, and more. But maybe the most shocking of them all is that the show is infinitely more impressive than a glance at its headliners might suggest. The American teen-drama series is created by Sam Levinson and premiered on HBO on June 16, 2019. After several affirmative nods from the audience, the show embarked upon the second season, which got renewed last year’s July. There hasn’t been any official release date declared, but it is anticipated that the filming would start in the next month. Well good news for the fans, Euphoria got a place on the nomination list of the 2020 Emmys.
When one starts watching the show, they would feel like they are again going to witness the same old teen play, but as they delve deeper into the plot, they would know that they are wrong. The American version is adapted from an Israeli series of the same name; Euphoria sees the rough and horrifying world of teenagers trying to navigate drugs, sex, social media nightmares, broken homes, emotional distress, and other adolescent struggles, which rarely are addressed by this genre. The show comes with a disclaimer since it might be a triggering one to a portion of the audience. On the other hand, most of the audience will probably agree it’s one of the few accurate visual interpretations of their life.
Euphoria stars Zendaya, Maude Apatow, Angus Cloud, Jacob Elordi, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Barbie Ferreira, Storm Reid, Hunter Schafer, Algee Smith, and many more. The series received nominations for the British Academy Television Award for Best International Programme, and the TCA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Drama. Zendaya received nominations for the Critics’ Choice Award, Primetime Emmy Award and Satellite Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series.
