Season 3 of The Mandalorian felt like a whirlwind. And with the force feeling strong that Season 4 will be released sometime next year, we feel there’s no better time to recap one of the most talked about series on Disney+. Season 1
Before we dive in, it’s worth noting that if you’re jumping straight into season 4 without any previous Mandalorian knowledge, many names irrelevant to previously known Star Wars characters will be mentioned. Superbly played by Pedro Pascal, The Mandalorian’s main storyline in Season 1 revolves around the bounty hunter Din Djarin as he encounters various individuals and factions while navigating the classic Star Wars galaxy.
The season begins with Din receiving a secretive and valuable bounty from a client. The bounty turns out to be a creature referred to as ‘the Child,’ or most commonly known as the adorable ‘Baby Yoda’ to Star Wars fans. As you’ve probably guessed, the Child possesses strong Force abilities.
Throughout the season, we see Din going above and beyond to protect Baby Yoda after deciding not to deliver him to the client, encountering key characters such as Cara Dune and Kuiil.
Season 1 culminates in a confrontation with Moff Gideon, who captures Din and his allies. However, they manage to escape and subsequently engage in a thrilling showdown with Gideon’s forces.
Season 2
In season 2, the story continues to follow Din Djarin as he journeys through the galaxy with Baby Yoda. Rotten Tomatoes stated how season 2 builds momentum more effectively than season one, and we couldn’t agree more.
Throughout the season, Din seeks to find the Child’s people to ensure his safety. While meeting more friends and foes along the way, including Bo-Katan Kryze and Ahsoka Tano.
In this season, Din also learns of the ancient enemy of the Mandalorians and sets out to find a Jedi who can train Baby Yoda.
Gideon and his forces remain a persistent threat as they seek to capture the Child for his Force powers. Gideon’s forces relentlessly pursue Din and his allies. The season ends with a thrilling and emotional climax as Din and his alliance finally have it out with Gideon in a lightsaber duel.
Season 3
In season 3, we finally see Din and Baby Yoda find their happy ending, or ‘take the easy way out’ as critics at Collider have argued. Specifically, this season sees the bounty hunter and little Yoda jumping from one threat to another across each episode before ending the season with a hope for future peace.
The start of the season picks right up from season 2, continuing with the duel between Din, his allies, and Gideon’s troops. After ultimately ending the battle victoriously against Gideon, Din and Baby Yoda arrive at the Living Waters, where Din adopts Baby Yoda and takes him on as his apprentice.
So What Next?
And they both lived happily ever after. Or so we’re left to think. There are no post-credit scenes to tease any new adventures for season 4. However, the prospective season will likely resume more smoothly than the last. So, in the meantime, let’s all pray for no lapses such as the three-year anomaly between the last two seasons.
