Far Cry 6: Release Date, Plot, Cast Details!

Yash Mahendra

Ubisoft is fresh off the release of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and Watch Dogs: Legion, but Ubisoft fanboys are still eagerly awaiting the latest release in the Far Cry series.

Here’s everything that we know about Far Cry 6.

Release Date

A listing on the Microsoft Store appears to have leaked that the game will be released on May 25th, 2021. Ubisoft hasn’t yet revealed when the title will be available for purchase, but Ubisoft CFO Frédérick Duguet seems to have confirmed the Microsoft leak.

The executive made a statement during an October 2020 earnings call that Far Cry 6 is set to go out during Ubisoft’s 2021-22 financial year, which begins on April 1, 2021. May 25, 2021, falls within that window, so if the listing is accurate Ubisoft should be ready to announce the official release date any day now.

Before this, Ubisoft had a launch date of February 18th, 2021, set to be the release date which got pushed to sometime after March 2021, due to the coronavirus pandemics effects on the company’s workflow.

Far Cry 6 is somewhat of a prequel to the previous Far Cry games and it takes place in a fictional Caribbean island called Yara that bears some resemblance to Cuba. It’s safe to say that the game takes place years before the present day. The antagonist of the game is President Anton Castillo (Giancarlo Esposito) who is a ruthless dictator of the island nation who is training his son Diego to, one day, take over and become his successor. Players will control the protagonist of the game- Dani Rojas. “As Dani Rojas (playable as a female or male character), you will help stoke the fires of revolution through guerrilla warfare across the island of Yara,” the official press release for the game explains.

A popular fan theory is that Diego is actually Vaas, one of the secondary antagonists from Far Cry 3, on account of a similar scar near his eyebrow. Ubisoft has neither confirmed nor denied this claim, however, if this is true, the story of Far Cry 6 could actually have a previously unseen impact on the overarching narrative of the whole series.

Those familiar with the hit TV shows Breaking Bad (Gus Fring) or The Mandalorian (Moff Gideon), would have immediately recognized President Anton Castillo has been portrayed by none other than Giancarlo Esposito.

Ubisoft also confirms that Anthony Gonzalez, who portrayed Miguel in the Pixar film Coco, comes to Far Cry 6 as Diego (possibly a young Vaas).

Far Cry 6 will be available in May 2021 (if the leaks are indeed accurate) and can be played across PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Google Stadia, and Amazon Luna.

Ubisoft has also confirmed that Far Cry 6 will support Smart Delivery on both next-gen consoles, so you won’t have to pay to upgrade.

So get ready to overthrow a ruthless dictator and take back Yara when Far Cry 6 launches in a few months.
