FLATBUSH MISDEMEANORS
Created by and starring Kevin Iso, and Dan Perlman, “Flatbush Misdemeanors” is a raw comedy of city life following Dan and Kevin, who play characters struggling to thrive in their new surroundings in Flatbush, Brooklyn that premiered on Sunday, May 23, 2021, on Showtime.
Rising comedians Dan Perlman and Kevin Iso play fictionalized versions of themselves: neighborhood best friends and urban millennials hilariously climbing the ladder to nowhere in the irreverent new comedy series FLATBUSH MISDEMEANORS. But even inside the losing, Dan and Kevin find there are little wins that come from tackling hipsters, mental health issues, and the rising tide of gentrification.
“Flatbush Misdemeanors” is a show that takes on race, gentrification, and a rapidly-changing New York with a laid-back angle of approach; it observes its characters, but doesn’t provoke, instead choosing to wait out situations until they reveal their inherent minor-key looniness. In the tradition of “High Maintenance,” the show frames outer-borough New York as a sort of oddball purgatory, in which our heroes face no situation that can’t be gotten through with a little ingenuity — or simply waited out until the mood shifts.
