There’s a lot of us who would have wished to witness the second world war. Well, it’s still not late enough. Tom Hanks’s new movie “Greyhound” that is based on the second world war is all set to be released soon. But the critical thing is, it is not going to hit the big screens directly. All rights for distribution are sold to Apple TV for 70 million dollars.

About Greyhound

Greyhound is an American war film directed by Aaron Schneider. The lead role is performed by Tom Hanks, who also wrote the screenplay. The film is based on the novel ” The Good Shepherd” written by C.S. Forester in 1955. This movie is produced by Gary Goetzman and would have been distributed by Sony TV production. It is totally based on the events of 1942, which brings back the images of reckless destruction and devastation around the world.

Cast

Tom Hanks played the key role in this movie as commander Ernest Krause, commanding officer of the USS Keeling. Other cast members include- Stephen Graham as Charlie Cole, Krause’s second-in-command, Rob Morgan as George Cleveland, the head chef Elisabeth Shue as Evelyn, Ernest’s love interest, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Lopez, Karl Glusman as Eppstein, Tom Brittney as Lieutenant Watson, Joseph Poliquin as Forbrick and Devin Druid as Wallace.

Synopsis

The movie is filmed on the life of an American Navy commander, who got his first wartime assignment under the command of an Escort group defending a merchant ship convoy under attack by submarines in early-1942 during the Battle of the Atlantic, only months after the U.S. officially entered World War II
During the period of the war, the American army sends 37 Allied ships under the command of Earnst Krause to maintain it’s supremacy. This movie also contains a lot of historical heritage and hardship of wars. It is going to be another big thing in the upcoming future.

Release date

Greyhound was initially scheduled to be released on the big screens in the United States by Sony Pictures on March 22, 2020. But because of the corona pandemic, it was postponed to May 8, 2020, and then to June 2020. But still, the condition is not better now for the film to be released. Therefore the distribution rights were transferred from SONY TV to Apple TV and were released yesterday ie, Friday, July 10, 2020.

However, Tom Hanks was highly disappointed with this decision and he opposed it publicly. It was hard for him to believe that all the hard work he has put in this movie would not be a grand success. He openly stated that -“I don’t mean to make angry my Apple overlords, but there is a difference in picture and sound quality.”
