Grey’s Anatomy Season 17: Cast, Premiere date and more interesting updates!

Grey’s Anatomy is a medical drama television series that airs on ABC. The series first premiered on March 27, 2005, and since then, sixteen seasons of Grey’s Anatomy have aired on ABC. Shonda Rhimes created Grey’s Anatomy, and also serves as an executive producer on the show, along with Betsy Beers, Mark Gordon, Krista Vernoff, Rob Corn, Mark Wilding, Allan Heinberg and Ellen Pompeo. The series focuses on the lives of surgical interns, residents and attendings at the Seattle Grace Hospital (later named Seattle Grace Mercy West and finally, Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital), as they balance their personal and professional lives. It revolves around the titular character, Dr. Meredith Grey, from her beginning as an intern to becoming the chief of general surgery.

Grey’s Anatomy is one of ABC’s most popular dramas, having won a plethora of awards during the time it has been on air. It is currently the longest-running scripted primetime television series on ABC. The series was renewed for a seventeenth season in May, 2019, even before season 16 had started airing.

The main cast of Grey’s Anatomy season 17 includes Ellen Pompeo as Dr. Meredith Grey; Chandra Wilson as Dr. Miranda Bailey; James Pickens Jr. as Dr. Richard Webber; Kevin McKidd as Dr. Owen Hunt; Jesse Williams as Dr. Jackson Avery; Caterina Scorsone as Dr. Amelia Shepherd; Camilla Luddington as Dr. Jo Karev; Kelly McCreary as Dr. Maggie Pierce; Giacomo Gianniotti as Dr. Andrew DeLuca; Kim Raver as Dr. Teddy Altman; Grey Germann as Dr. Tom Koracick; Jake Borelli as Dr. Levi Schmitt; Chris Carmack as Dr. Atticus “Link” Lincoln; Richard Flood as Dr. Cormac Hayes; and Anthony Hill as Dr. Winston Ndugu.

Recurring cast on season 17 of Grey’s Anatomy includes Debbie Allen as Dr. Catherine Fox; Jason George as Dr. Ben Warren; Alex Landi as Dr. Nico Kim; and Jaicy Elliot as Dr. Taryn Helm. 

Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 – Premiere date and recent updates

Season 17 of Grey’s Anatomy will be including the COVID-19 pandemic, as was revealed by showrunner Krista Vernoff in July 2019. The season premiere will be set some weeks into the pandemic. Filming for season 17 of Grey’s Anatomy began on September 8, 2020. The season has been filmed with all social distancing protocols and rules in place, with the cast and crew being tested thrice every week; and fewer scenes in each script to cope up with the schedules per episode. It is scheduled to premiere on November 12, 2020, as a two-hour crossover episode with the spin-off series Station 19.
