HBO is developing the Hellraiser concept for television audiences. This will be a big-budget adaptation of the Hellraiser franchise for the small screen. It seems audiences are in for some real pain.
Hellraiser concept was introduced to the world by English author Clive Barker through his book The Hellbound Heart. The Hellfrachise has been adapted into various films, series of books, and comics. The first film was released way back in 1987 titled Hellraiser.
The Hellraiser concept discusses the world of Cenobites. The Cenobites were former humans who have now descended into this hellish realm. The weird creatures have developed a strange obsession with torture and pain. To enter this hellish realm a human must solve a puzzle that opens the door to this hell. The story follows the protagonist Pinhead, a former British world war 1 Captain trapped in this hellish world. Pinhead has been the lead practitioner of the sect for almost 10 movies.
About the TV show
The new HBO show will be directed by David Gordon Green (from Halloween fame) for the early episodes. Though plans were made to produce the show way back in 2012 but things didn’t materialize at that time. The script is written by Mark Verheiden and Michael Dougherty.
The script will still focus on Pinhead as the lead character and the Cenobites. The makers have a plan to continue and expand the well established Hellraiser mythology. It will assume past mythology as a given fact.
Expected release date
The exact release date cannot be predicted right now. It can only be confirmed by the makers. The whole entertainment industry has been badly disrupted due to global pandemic. So things may get delayed than earlier expected. We will get the latest updates on our site.
