Honor Magic 2 with In-display FP and Six Cameras launched in China

Huawei’s sub-brand has now launched the much awaited Honor Magic 2- a bezel-less successor of the original Honor Magic which came back in 2016. With this device, the Chinese giant aims to compete with Xiaomi’s recently launched Mi Mix 3 which is based on a similar concept.

The Honor Magic 2 comes with a 6.39-inch AMOLED display having a Full-HD+ resolution in a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, What’s interesting? Well, there’s no notch. The phone packs in a mechanical manual driven slider which is said to make use of 5 rail sliding mechanism and needs to be pushed from the back of the phone in order to use front cameras.

Under the hood, it is powered by the latest HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC coupled with ARM MALI-G76 MP10 GPU. The handset comes in three different RAM and storage configurations but here’s a catch. All the three including 6GB/128GB, 8GB/128, and the high end 8GB/256GB models come with an In-Display fingerprint scanner whereas, the top-end 8/256GB version gets the perks of bearing 3D facial recognition for unlocking the device. In addition, the device also packs “voice print” recognition technology to only recognize the voice of the owner of the device.

For photography, Honor Magic 2 comes with a total of six cameras, making it the first one in the world to do so! The triple camera setup at the back features a 16MP+ 16MP super wide-angle + 24MP monochrome camera combination, along with an LED flash. Up front, we have a 16MP primary shooter + 2MP + 2MP TOF Depth sensor combination and an IR sensor on the top end model for 3D Face Unlock, as mentioned above.

On the software front, the device runs on latest Magic UI 2.0 on top of Android 9 Pie, it’s basically the same EMUI 9.0 but loaded with few extra AI features like Huawei’s own voice assistant Yo-yo. Fueling up the handset is a 3,400mAh in-built battery which supports 40W MagicCharge for fast charging.

As for price, the Honor Magic 2 is priced at CNY 3799 (roughly Rs. 40,200) for the base 6/128GB model, CNY 4299 (roughly Rs. 45,500) for the 8GB/128 model, and CNY 4799 (roughly Rs. 50,800) for the 8GB/256GB model. It will go on sale in Black, Blue, and Red gradient options from November 6th on Vmall, Tmall, and, while the top end version will be made available later in December.
