IEM Rio 2022 CS:GO Major – Dates, Location And Format

Published

on

ESL takes control of the IEM CS:GO Major to Rio again. The previous confirmation of the tournament was canceled in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This time, we believe that nothing prevents the Major from happening. In October, the best 24 CS:GO teams from around the world will try to qualify to fight for their share of the $1,000,000 in prizes. The following are more details of the event, team awards, and how the qualification for the tournament will work.

When and where will the IEM Rio take place

The world tournament will be held between October 31 and November 13 at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro. The place is already reserved and is popular in the world of eSports. It should be noted that the capacity of the Jeunesse Arena can accommodate up to 15,000 fans, which means that the atmosphere is skyrocketing. A total of 24 teams will participate in this event for a total of $1,000,000 in prizes.

If you like CS:GO betting, keep one thing in mind. Such Brazilian teams as FURIA and MIBR will do everything possible to qualify to represent their country in such a large event, so be careful when betting against them, as they have an additional reason to compete in the contest. We also recommend you to use the cs go tracker site to be aware of all the nuances and statistics when the Major IEM Rio 2022 unfolds. Now, let’s move to the structure of this tournament.

What is the Format of the Tournament

In October, the Major IEM Rio will follow the traditional CS:GO format. There are three stages to play for the 24 best teams involved:

  • New Сhallengers stage (from October 31 to November 3)
  • New Legends stage (from November 5 to 8)
  • New Champions stage (from November 10 to 13)

While the tournament may seem a little confusing for a newcomer, it is designed to be as honest and stable as possible. Let’s take a look at each phase separately to understand its nuances.

New Challengers Stage

The Challengers stage will be the first phase of the event starting October 31, 2022. The structure of matches is as follows:

  • 24 teams are divided into two double elimination groups.
  • This stage uses the Swiss System (each team should win three matches to move further and lose three games to be eliminated).
  • All games are played at the Best of 1, but elimination and advancement games are at the Best of 3 (until two victories).

This stage will determine the top 8 teams eligible to fight in the next stage. Also, the 8 teams from the bottom bracket will be eliminated.

New Legends Stage

This is the second phase of the CS:GO Major. Similarly to the previous stage, it has the following system:

  • 16 teams are divided into two double elimination groups.
  • This stage uses the Swiss System.
  • All games are played at the Best of 1, but elimination and advancement matches are at the Best of 3.

Likewise, at the end of the Legends stage, the top eight teams will advance to the final stage, while the eight teams from the bottom bracket will be dropped out of the tournament.

New Champions Stage

The final stage uses the following seeding:

  • Games are played with a single elimination bracket.
  • All matches are in the Best of 3 format.

That is where the winner of the contest will be determined, and where other participants will share the prize of $1,000,000.

What is the Structure of the Prize Pool

As mentioned above, the best 24 teams will fight for $1,000,000 in prizes. The complete structure of the cash prize can be found below:

  • 1st place: $500,000 and 4000 BLAST Premier points
  • 2nd place: $150,000 and 2000 BLAST Premier points
