Instagram announces new Interface with focus on Appearance of Profile

Published

on

Instagram today announced on its press site that it is testing out new profile layouts. This update replaces some of the icons on profiles and replaces them with literal text. Now tabs are marked with text rather than icons making them much clearer to understand. The Facebook-owned company wrote on its site

Over the next several weeks you may see features re-arranged at the top of your profile including changes to icons, buttons and the way you navigate between tabs, which we hope will make profiles easier and cleaner to use.

The blog post further mentions

We’ve been working on these changes and will test them in phases and different combinations with our community over the next several weeks. We’ll continue to experiment and update the experience as we learn from your feedback

Instagram recently took step to curb down fake followers, comments and likes. It is aiming to make its app easier to navigate and profile more accurate info related to the accounts. The changes are mostly centred on the appearance of profiles. The new noticeable change in the redesign is the follower counts which is no longer displayed at the top of the profile and now appears in a smaller font. The description is displayed to the left of the profile icon. The “Follow” and “Message” buttons are now placed adjacent to each other and we will be able to see mutual followers when we tap on a user’s Following tab. The business accounts are getting some new additions like Shop tab, Directions, Call and Start Order.

The new redesign may remove some of your followers but will be beneficial in the long run. The cleaner interface means it will take less clicks and swipes to achieve the desired result and get more accurate data and analytical information.

Instagram is yet to settle on a final redesign and says it will be working on these changes and test out different combinations in phases over the next few weeks. The company will be experimenting with profiles based on feedback so make sure to let them know if you have any bright ideas.
