Inventing Anna is an upcoming drama streaming television series on Netflix. Produced by Shonda Rhimes, it is based on the New York article “How Anna (Sorokin) Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People” by Jessica Pressler.
Netflix announced in June 2018 that they have acquired the article to turn it into a television series with production company Shondaland. David Frankel was bought in as the director and executive producer of the first two episodes.

Inventing Anna: Plot and cast
Inventing Anna is based on the true story of a con woman from New York high society. Anna Sorokin was a Russian-born German who shifted to New York in 2013 and resided under a fake identity as Anna Delvey, believed to be a very rich German heiress.
Anna told her friends that her wealth was worth $60 million and managed to get her high-society contacts to pay the bill for hotels, restaurants, and shopping. She claimed at the time that her money was struck overseas or she had forgotten her wallet.
Sorokin was convicted of larceny and theft of services and imprisoned from 2019 to 2021. She was then taken into custody in March 2021 to be deported back to Germany.
The Netflix show will follow a journalist who starts investigating Anna’s crimes while she awaits trial and how she stole New York high society’s hearts and money. It will see reporter Vivian question if Sorkin was a con woman or the latest incarnation of the American Dream.
The series will feature Julia Garner in the lead role as Anna Delvey alongside Anna Chlumsky as Vivian. Apart from them, Katie Lowes, Laverne Cox, Arian Moayed, Alexia Floyd, Anders Holm, Anna Deavere Smith, Jeff Perry, Terry Kinney, Jennifer Esposito, and Anthony Edwards have been cast in important roles.
