“In a time when honor was everything, when courage made kings“, goes the bold red calligraphic lines in the beginning of the teaser. The Old Man and the Gun and A GhostStory director David Lowery brings us another classic The Green Knight, based on the poem of ‘Sir Gawain and the Green Knight’, telling the story of Sir Gawain, King Arthur’s headstrong nephew, who embarks on a quest to confront a gigantic, green-skinned stranger. His fights against the ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers added up to his greatness of his character and thus defining his journey and self worth, leading to an honorable leader in the kingdom.
Back in November 2018, David Lowery announced that he would be retelling the 14th century classic with A24, an American independent entertainment company along with Ley Line Entertainment and Bren Studios. The movie was initially decided to be premiered on March 16, 2020, and be released on May 20, 2020, unfortunately, pandemic brought down the release and now no new date has been announced by the producers. Seems like history classic fans need to wait a bit longer.
The film stars Dev Patel, playing Sir Gawain along with Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Barry Keoghan, Ralph Ineson, Sean Harris, Sarita Choudhury and Kate Dickie.
