Jimmy Kimmel will return to host the Emmy Awards in a new way this September. Over many years, Kimmel has emerged as emcee-icon for award ceremonies. Alongside being the host for 2012 and 2016 Emmys, he has also been the master of ceremonies for 2017 and 2018 Oscars. One big reason behind his consistent re-appointment as a host is that his interactive comedy show ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ airs on the same network which broadcasts both Oscars and Emmys every year, ABC.

Jimmy Kimmel was in-charge when the strangest incident in the history Oscars happened. In an erroneous announcement, La La Land was announced as the Best Picture whereas Moonlight was the actual winner. The Best Picture Award is considered to be the climax of the ceremony. The announcement was then immediately corrected and Kimmel had to regain the ceremony’s lost momentum during its crucial moments. Kimmel, owing to his experience of overseeing the most unusual moments, has been reassigned to lift off Emmys in an entirely new way due to the pandemic.

Kimmel confirmed himself as this year’s emcee for the Emmys. “I don’t know where or how or even why we are doing this, but we are and I am hosting it! The 72nd Emmy Awards – Sunday, September 20th on ABC Network”, his tweet read.

He is also the executive producer of the show. The exact outline of how the show will go about is still under construction. Whether it will be a live show with virtual attendance of selected and nominated celebs, or will it be a pre-recorded telecast, is yet to be known. Kimmel has been hosting his own show virtually, from his home since quarantine and social distancing measures have become indispensable in the past few months. That experience is going to come handy for Emmys.
