Jio GigaFiber to commercially launch in March 2019

India’s youngest telecom player Reliance Jio announced its Jio GigaFiber service last year at the company’s 41st Annual General Meeting. With the beginning of a new year, the service is expected to reach further across the country in the following months. The major cities obviously will be getting the service first and then gradually the tier-2 and tier-3 cities. Now, a new report from India Today claims that the Jio GigaFiber will commercially enter major Indian cities in March 2019.

The service is first expected to roll out in 1100 cities in the first phase of launch. Before its commercial launch, Jio has selected some locations like Delhi-NCR with high rise buildings to deploy the service. Though the landline and set-top box are likely to be launched at the same time, home solutions may take some more time.

The Jio GigaFiber preview offer is offering 1100GB data per month to the user with speeds of 100Mbps for the duration of 3 months. The installation is free of cost but the actual broadband prices will be revealed at the commercial launch event. However, users need to pay an amount of Rs 4500 as a security deposit for the connection which will later be refunded when the users will disconnect and deactivate the account.

The Jio GigaFiber is already available as a trial service to a limited number of customers in major Indian cities like Mumbai and Delhi. The Jio GigaFiber is the company’s first ever Fibre-to-Fibre (FTTH) broadband service offered through fixed lines. The company plans to connect up to 50 million homes in the country. The setup includes a Jio GigaFiber router and a Jio GigaTV Set-top box. The router can be used for running multiple devices with speeds around 1Gbps while the set-top box is for television services. This service will be giving wall-to-wall FTH services for phones, televisions, computers and other devices. The wall-to-wall FTTH implies that there will be no dip in internet speed due to the obstruction caused by the walls.
