JioPhone 3 to launch in June and may cost around Rs 4,500

India’s youngest telecom brand Reliance Jio has already released two iterations of its low-cost 4G feature phone. The first version came in 2017, while the JioPhone 2 was launched in 2018 with some improvements over its predecessor. Though it’s still early to talk about the JioPhone 3, a new report claims it will arrive in June 2019.

The report comes from a tech new website that got it from an anonymous Jio executive. The piece of information seems almost certain as the time period is when its parent Reliance hosts its annual meet. The JioPhone 2 was launch in the same manner and it looks like the company will be doing the same with JioPhone 3.

From the rumors, the JioPhone 3 will be a all-touch smartphone with a 5-inch display. The chipset is still unknown but it will be paired with 2GB RAM and 64GB internal storage with an expandable option via microSD card. That will be enough to run Android, but it remains to be seen whether Jio will be going for the full version or the lighter Go edition. There will be upgrades in the optics department too with a 5MP sensor at the back and a 2MP at the front.

The previous JioPhones have been fairly successful but lacked the components required to call it a proper smartphone. The previous versions were non-Android devices that run on KaiOS. But with JioPhone 3, we may see a proper budget smartphone that will give customer a run for their money. Xiaomi is also rumored to launch its first Android Go smartphone around a price of Rs 4,000 which will give a good competition.

The upgraded hardware means the JioPhone will be priced higher. It is expected to cost around Rs 4,500 unlike the JioPhone 2 that sells for Rs 2,999. The JioPhone 3 is expected to be unveiled in India this June. The pre-orders will likely start soon while the sales will commence in August. The handset will be available through Jio stores, Reliance Digital stores and through the official Jio website.
