The upcoming American adventure film Jungle Cruise is set to hit the theatres on July 30, 2021, by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The movie is said to be inspired by the famous Disneyland theme park ride and is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a screenplay written by Michael Green, Glenn Ficarra, and John Requa. Just like every other movie planned to get released this year, Jungle Cruise, too, had been delayed and canceling release dates since last year. The initial scheduled date was October 11, 2019, and later on pushed to July 24, 2020. But again, due to COVID-19, it is fated to release next year.
The official description of the movie goes like this, “Set during the early 20th century, a riverboat captain named Frank takes a scientist and her brother on a mission into a jungle to find the Tree of Life which is believed to possess healing powers. All the while, the trio must fight against dangerous wild animals and a competing German expedition.” The movie adaptation of the theme park will attempt to recapture the fun spirit and adventure of the ride. Jungle Cruise might be of the same theme and idea like that of the Jumanji franchise, where the characters embark on adventures and meet the antagonists to jump over them to meet their destination.
Jungle Cruise is going to throw the limelight on Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Édgar Ramírez, Jack Whitehall, Jesse Plemons, Paul Giamatti, Andy Nyman, Quim Gutiérrez and the list goes on. Do you know that the production of the movie had been in conversations since 2004, almost 16 years to reach the audience? There had been several internet criticisms against the openly gay character of Jack Whitehall, and questions had been raised about why a heterosexual person is going to portray and represent a homosexual dramatis personae. Disney had always been denounced for not being inclusive enough, but yet the production house was skeptical of using the term “gay”.
