Lenovo Z5s to be unveiled on December 6

A week ago, the Lenovo Z5s got certified on 3C and Chinese regulatory agency TENAA. Today Lenovo VP Chang Cheng posted a teaser on Weibo revealing the company will be unveiling the smartphone on December 6.

Lenovo Z5s

The attached images from the certification reveal a triple camera set up on the back along with a circular fingerprint sensor while the front will be having a single shooter in the center. It was rumored later on that it will not be a waterdrop notch but an in-display camera. This type of cut-out notch that holds the front camera will also be seen on the Samsung Galaxy A8s and Huawei Nova 4. Since Huawei announced yesterday that it will be unveiling the Nova 4 on December 17, Lenovo Z5s will be the world’s first smartphone with a cutout notch.

Earlier this week, real-life photos and videos of the Lenovo Z5s leaked online showing the cut-out notch in action close up. From the video, it looked like it is very easy to hide it inside the notification tray like a blacked-out notification icon. The smartphone may come with a drop option to hide the notch though that’s not necessary. Due to the absence of traditional notch or top bezels, the smartphone will have a high screen-to-body ratio.

As for the device, it will feature a 6.3-inch display with unspecified resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio and backed by a 3210 mAh battery. It measured 156.7 x 74.5 x 7.8 mm. The device houses a triple camera setup at the back stacked in a vertical arrangement on the top left of the handset. The handset may also be powered by the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150 chipset, making it the first smartphone to do that. Other remaining specs along with price and availability will be announced in the launch event. Keep tuned, we will be covering more about the smartphone from the event.
