Created by Frank Spotnitz and Steve Thompson, Leonardo is a historical drama made for The CW. Spotnitz and Thompson are also the executive producers alongside Luca Bernabei, Matilde Bernabei and Freddie Highmore.

The first season of the series premiered on March 23, 2021 and received generally positive reviews from critics. It has been rated 7.2/10 on IMDb. Considering the positive response, the makers have renewed the series for a second season, which is scheduled to premiere soon.

Leonardo Plot and Cast

Although the makers have not revealed much, Leonardo Season 2 will continue from where the first season ended. The basic premise is set in 1506, Leonardo da Vinci, the most famous artist of his time, is accused of the murder of Caterina da Cremona.

Questioned by Stefano Giraldi, an ambitious officer of the Duchy of Milan, Leonardo begins to tell his life, starting from the first meeting with Caterina in Andrea del Verrocchio’s workshop. Giraldi, fascinated by the artist’s personality, begins to suspect that Leonardo may be innocent and investigates to discover the truth.

Coming to the cast, the leads of Season 1 are expected to reprise their roles. This includes Aidan Turner, Matilda De Angelis, James D’Arcy, Alessandro Sperduti, Robin Renucci, Gabriel Lo Giudice, Josafat Vagni and Andrew Knott in the lead roles. The rest of the leads include Massimo De Santis, Giancarlo Giannini, Freddie Highmore, Carlos Cuevas, Giovanni Scifoni, Max Bennett, Claudio Castrogiovanni and Antonio De Matteo.

Leonardo Season 2 Release Date

The first season of Leonardo premiered in March 2021 and it was renewed for a second season the same month. Considering that, the second season should release sometime in 2022.

The upcoming season might consist of eight episodes like Season 1 and the rest of the details shall be revealed soon. The series is produced by Lux Vide, Big Light Productions, Rai Fiction, Sony Pictures Television, France Televisions, RTVE and Alfresco Pictures.
