Lionsgate Delays the Release of “John Wick Chapter 4”!

Just after four days of release “John Wick: Parabellum” garnered 50 million dollars at the domestic box office and at that fourth day, a fourth instalment of “John Wick” was announced, given the popularity of the Keanu Reeves starer, it was obvious that a fourth instalment might be on its way. “Parabellum” ended on a cliffhanger and so it almost devised a path and plot for “John Wick: 4”.

The original release date for “John Wick 4 ” was supposed to May 21, 2021, but now Lionsgate has delayed it by a year. The new release is date is May 27, 2022. This doesn’t come as a surprise to the team of “John Wick” or the fans, Reeves had already committed himself to  Warner Bros. tent pole “The Matrix 4” and was four weeks into shooting when the pandemic occurred and the production was stopped. Reeves’ contract obligates him to shoot “The Matrix 4” before “John Wick” and so we had a delay. Although both the movies were to release on the same day, this delay is not depressive at all because fans are waiting for both- “The Matrix 4” and “John Wick 4” eagerly, it would have been a loss for both the franchises if their movies had been released on the same day, parting potential audiences.

“‘The Matrix’ was only four weeks in when this all happened, So, Keanu’s gotta go finish his commitment up on ‘The Matrix,’ which is a big deal and which I think will probably take him until the end of the year. Then we have to go into our prep mode and then we’ll start. So release dates … who knows right now.” said the director Chad Stahelski earlier in an interview.

Lionsgate is all set to fill the gap created by “John Wick 4” by other major reboots such as “Saw” and “Spiral”. “Spiral” was going to be released in May 2020, but due to the pandemic, its release has also been delayed by a year to  May 21, 2021. “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” featuring Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson has been delayed by a year too. It will now be seen on August 20, 2020, in the cinemas.

The plot for “John Wick Chapter 4” is already set. “Parabellum” ended on a cliffhanger when in an intense fight to protect The Continental, Manager Winston shoots Wick to regain High Table’s favour. However, John isn’t dead. So, chapter four might possibly focus on Wick and Bowery king raging an all-out war against The Continental and High Table. We now have to wait for sneak peeks and trailers to be out.
